Multi-functional building. bruehl
On behalf of the Construction and Property Agency of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), RKW has designed a new multi-functional building on the site of the Police Training Centre for the NRW Police Office for Training, Further Education and Human Resources (LAFP). It consists of five different usage zones including an accommodation and an administration block, sanitary and changing rooms, seminar area and the all-important training rooms. The latter facilities have scene-of-crime houses, which have been designed to provide realistic practical exercises. The plan of the building forms a two-winged block for accommodation and administration as well as an deeper building at the eastern end with training and seminar rooms along with changing rooms and showers. A plaster facade with a number of different coloured tones expresses the various uses visually. The white, fine-grain plaster finished surfaces contrast with darker, coarser-grained plaster surfaces, which visually unify the window openings. On the other hand, the part of the building used for training and seminars is dark and the window openings highlighted in white. The natural articulation of the building also achieves a successful functional legibility.
