Green Office. Olympic commitee. Sochi

Ready for the Winter Games 2014: RKW designed and realised an office building for the Olympic Committee in Sochi, Russia. Since its completion, the project has been awarded the 1st prize in the Russian “Green Building Recognition Program” for its barrier-free design. It also fulfils all Green Building standards with its energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. Thanks to efficient design and construction, the building was finished well before the contract completion date. Its nine floors provide offices for the important central organisations for the Games as well as functional rooms such as conference areas, a museum and staff restaurant with an adjoining terrace. An elliptical entrance building brings visitors and staff into the building. Here the high-quality design of the facade also continues into the interior. It is meant to highlight the contrast between the ice and snow of the nearby mountains and the subtropical coastal resort of Sochi. To achieve this effect, the elemental glass facade is dominated by bright shades of white and reflective materials such as aluminium sheets and treated ceramic tiles, whereas the colours inside the building suggest sun, sand and sea for a pleasant working ambiance for the Olympic Games.
