Evangelic Christ Church. NEUSS

The first sacred building for RKW: a steeple for the Protestant Christuskirchengemeinde (Christ Church) in Neuss, Germany. As a small highlight, it is the final element in a diverse roofscape at the Konrad-Adenauer-Ring. Created as a replacement for an ensemble dating back to the 1960s, a new community centre with a two-storey, L-shaped structure includes a kindergarten featuring a spacious outdoor area as well as new community areas. Together with a further L containing 17 apartments for elderly disabled people, the result is a sheltered inner courtyard with stately old trees. Outwardly, too, the project can be experienced as a centre for the first time – with the steeple symbolising a new form of openness.
